The route, step by step

1. 01

   Eligibility check

   no cost·~1 wk

   Remote work or freelancing for clients outside Thailand, or a Thai “soft power” activity (e.g. a Muay Thai or cooking course). Spouse and children apply as dependants.

2. 02

   Proof of funds

   no cost·~12 wk

   About 500,000 THB in your account, usually with around 3 months of history — start early. It is proof of funds, not a cost.

3. 03

   Documents

   $150·~3 wk

   Employer or client contracts, bank statements and — since 31 August 2026 — a police clearance certificate.

4. 04

   Visa application

   $350·~3 wk

   Apply at the Thai mission for your nationality or country of permanent residence (rule since 31 August 2026). Fee 10,000 THB.

5. 05

   The move

   $2,000·~3 wk

   Flights, first month’s housing, local SIM and banking. Working for Thai employers is not allowed on a DTV.

6. 06

   Extension and taxes

   $100·~26 wk

   Up to 180 days per entry plus one 180-day extension in the country (1,900 THB). Spending 180+ days a year in Thailand makes you a tax resident — plan ahead.
