Spain offers a Non-lucrative residence for financially independent individuals, a Digital Nomad Visa and an entrepreneur visa. The Golden Visa was abolished on 3 April 2025. Exceptional climate, food and quality of life.
Spain is one of the most popular immigration destinations for expats, particularly for those seeking a comfortable climate, well-developed infrastructure, and a path to an EU passport. The country offers several programs — from an accessible Non-lucrative residence for passive income holders to a Digital Nomad Visa and an entrepreneur visa.
The Spanish Golden Visa (Visado por Inversión) has been abolished: since 3 April 2025 (Organic Law 1/2025) no new investor residence applications are accepted for real estate, shares or bonds. For business, the entrepreneur visa under Law 14/2013 remains — for an innovative project with a favourable ENISA report. Permanent residency comes after 5 years and citizenship after 10 years of legal residence.
The Non-lucrative residence is suitable for those who can demonstrate regular passive income of at least €2,400 per month — from dividends, rental income, or savings. This type of residency does not allow working in Spain, but is perfect for retirees and passive income recipients.
Since 2023 Spain has been actively issuing the Digital Nomad Visa for remote workers earning at least 200% of the minimum wage (≈€2,762/month at the 2025 rate). The special Beckham Law tax regime lets new residents pay a flat 24% tax on Spanish income for the first 6 years instead of the progressive rate up to 47%.
