1. 01

   Profile check

   no cost·~1 wk

   Income of about €28,000+ a year, a degree or 5+ years of experience, and clients or an employer outside Italy. Without these the consulate refuses at first review.

2. 02

   Documents and insurance

   $1,000·~4 wk

   Contracts and statements, apostilled and translated degree, health insurance for the whole stay, a lease or proof of accommodation.

3. 03

   Visa at the consulate

   $150·~6 wk

   €116 fee. The consulate checks that you already work remotely, not that you are looking for a job in Italy.

4. 04

   The move

   $3,500·~3 wk

   Flights, first months of rent, codice fiscale and a bank account.

5. 05

   Permesso di soggiorno

   $250·~8 wk

   Within 8 days of arrival, file at the post office (kit giallo), then give fingerprints at the Questura. Your family applies with you.
