Proof of Funds for a Visa

Proof of funds is a mandatory requirement of most immigration and student programs. It is not enough to have the amount — you must document it correctly: source of the money, how long the funds have been "seasoned" in the account, and the format of bank letters. Poorly documented funds are among the top three reasons for student and immigration visa refusals.

Current amounts for 2025

Canada Express Entry: CAD 15,263 for one person, CAD 19,001 for two, CAD 23,360 for a family of three (updated annually). Germany blocked account for students: €11,904 per year (€992/month). UK Student visa: £1,483/month in London and £1,136/month outside London for 9 months plus course fees. Australia Student visa: AUD 29,710 per year plus AUD 10,394 for a partner. Schengen tourism: roughly €50–120 per day depending on the country.

How to document the money correctly

Funds generally must sit in the account for at least 28 days (UK) or show a 6-month history (Canada). Large recent deposits require a documented source: property sale, a deed of gift, earnings. Acceptable: deposits and savings accounts; not acceptable: stocks, cryptocurrency, real estate (unless sold). The bank letter must show the bank's details, account opening date, 6-month average balance and currency. We prepare the file and explanation letters to each country's exact requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a sponsor's or parents' money?+
Yes, for most student visas — with a notarized sponsor letter, proof of relationship and the sponsor's statements. For Canada Express Entry the funds must be available to you personally: a gift is formalized with a deed of gift before filing. Borrowed money is not accepted anywhere.
What if I withdraw the money after getting the visa?+
Canada re-checks funds at the border — the amount must remain until you land. Germany's blocked account limits withdrawals to €992/month — you cannot take the money out early. Showing funds "borrowed for a day" qualifies as misrepresentation with bans of up to 5 years.
