One Way Ticket Team
Express Entry is Canada's federal system for attracting skilled immigrants. Tens of thousands of people receive permanent residency through it every year. The system is built on a points-based assessment (CRS — Comprehensive Ranking System): the higher your score, the sooner you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
How the CRS system works
The maximum CRS score is 1,200. In practice, the cutoff hovers between 450 and 560, depending on the draw and category. Here is what makes up your score:
- •Age: maximum points at 20–29 years old (up to 110 points)
- •Education: PhD — 140 pts, master's — 126 pts, bachelor's — 112 pts
- •Canadian work experience: up to 70 pts per year
- •Foreign work experience: up to 50 pts for 3+ years
- •English (IELTS): CLB 9+ in every skill for the maximum
- •French: up to 50 additional points
- •A job offer from a Canadian employer (LMIA): +50 or +200 pts
- •A Provincial Nominee certificate (PNP): +600 pts (effectively guarantees an ITA)
Top 5 ways to boost your CRS score
- •1. Improve your IELTS: each additional band can add 10–30 CRS points
- •2. Apply to a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): +600 points immediately
- •3. Land a Canadian job offer with LMIA: +50 or +200 points
- •4. Study in Canada: PGWP + Canadian experience = a significant boost
- •5. Learn French: up to +50 points for knowing both languages
💡 2025 insider tip: the provinces with the most active PNP programs are Ontario (OINP), British Columbia (BC PNP) and Alberta (AINP). For IT professionals there are dedicated Tech Pilot Draws — separate rounds exclusively for tech occupations.
