1. 01

   Income and savings check

   Passive income from €920/mo (2026 minimum wage) for the main applicant, +50% for a spouse, +30% per child; savings covering about 12 months (~€11,040) are expected.

2. 02

   NIF and bank account

   $400·~3 wk

   Tax number via a representative, a Portuguese bank account, and savings transferred for the application.

3. 03

   Accommodation in Portugal

   $1,800·~4 wk

   A 12-month lease or a property deed — part of the visa file.

4. 04

   D7 visa filing

   $500·~8 wk

   Consulate or visa centre: forms, insurance, police certificate, proof of income. ~€110 fee.

5. 05

   Move and AIMA

   $2,500·~8 wk

   A 120-day entry visa; inside the country AIMA issues a 2-year residence permit (fee ~€130–170), then 3-year renewals. AIMA queues can be long.

6. 06

   Taxes and long-term status

   Tax residency and registration. Permanent residence after 5 years with A2 Portuguese; under the 2026 law citizenship takes 10 years (7 for EU and Portuguese-speaking nationals).
