The route, step by step

1. 01

   Documents at home

   $700·~4 wk

   Police certificate and birth certificate with apostilles. A sworn translator in Paraguay translates them into Spanish.

2. 02

   Entry and Interpol check

   $600·~2 wk

   In Asunción: Interpol certificate, biometrics and proof of address.

3. 03

   Temporary residency

   $1,200·~8 wk

   File with the Directorate General of Migration. Residency is issued for 2 years.

4. 04

   Cédula and tax number

   $300·~4 wk

   After approval you get a cédula and a RUC tax number. Paraguay taxes territorially: foreign income is not taxed.

5. 05

   Move and permanent residency

   $2,200·~4 wk

   Housing, bank, insurance. After 2 years of temporary residency you apply for permanent.
