1. 01

   Category and income

   no cost·~1 wk

   Tech professionals need $24,000+ a year; other professions $60,000+. You work for a company or clients outside Malaysia.

2. 02

   Documents

   $600·~2 wk

   Contract or proof of projects, recent bank statements, health insurance, a passport with plenty of validity left.

3. 03

   Application with MDEC

   $250·~6 wk

   Online through the DE Rantau portal. Fee RM 1,000 for the main applicant and RM 500 per family member.

4. 04

   Approval and entry

   no cost·~2 wk

   After approval the pass is endorsed in your passport. It is issued for 3 to 12 months.

5. 05

   Move and renewal

   $2,500·~3 wk

   Rent, bank, SIM. You can renew for another 12 months. It does not lead to permanent residence, so we plan what comes next.
