The route, step by step

1. 01

   Eligibility check

   no cost·~1 wk

   Employment with (or ownership of) a company outside the UAE, income from $3,500/mo, health insurance valid in the UAE.

2. 02

   Documents and insurance

   $300·~3 wk

   Employer letter or contract, pay slips and several months of bank statements, passport copy, photo, insurance policy.

3. 03

   GDRFA application

   $200·~2 wk

   Online application with Dubai GDRFA: AED 200 permit fee plus service fees; applying from inside the UAE adds AED 500.

4. 04

   Medical test and Emirates ID

   $250·~2 wk

   Medical fitness test, biometrics and Emirates ID. Together with the application, government costs are roughly AED 1,500–1,700.

5. 05

   Move and housing

   $4,000·~3 wk

   Flights, a lease (often paid in a few cheques upfront plus a deposit), DEWA utilities, a local bank account.

6. 06

   Yearly renewal

   $500·~2 wk

   The permit is issued for 1 year and renewable while you keep the income and insurance. Sponsoring family has separate requirements — we check them for your case.
